Menomonie Police, the Dunn County Sheriff's office, and UW-Stout police responded to a call at 8:58 PM last night (Jan. 21, 2023) about a complaint of an older white male who had broken into a home and was threatening the homeowner and had shot a gun. The break-in was in an apartment in the area of Bongey Drive and Terrill Road. 

The suspect stole the homeowner's vehicle and was eventually stopped by the police. During the traffic stop officers from the sheriff and police departments discharged weapons at the suspect. First aid was attempted but the suspect died at the site. No law enforcement personnel were injured. 

The involved officers from both departments have been placed on administrative assignments pending an investigation of the shooting. 

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is in charge of the investigation of the shooting, while the Menomonie Police Department is investigating the home invasion. The police department will release more information about the home invasion as the investigation continues. 

According to the Department of Criminal Investigation, the departments  are cooperating fully in the investigation.
