Community Conversations - The Farmer's Lawyer | WisCommunity

On Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 12 noon to 1:30 PM, we will be doing a book review on “The Farmer’s Lawyer,” by Sarah Vogel.  This meeting will be at the Menomonie Public Library.  It is about a class action lawsuit that took place in the 1980’s farm crisis.  The suit started as a representation of all farmers in North Dakota who were dealing with the Farmers Home Administration (USDA).  The civil rights of all of these farmers were being violated and many Family Farms were closed.  The suit, Colman v. Block, eventually extended to all farmers dealing with the Farmers Home Administration across the United States and was eventually won in 1987.  Even if you don’t get the chance to read the book, I think you will enjoy the discussion, led by the former editor of the Dunn County News, Margo Hecker, who has lived many years in North Dakota.
