Public Forum on Air Quality and Impacts on Public Health-Colfax Municipal Building

Dr. Crispin Pierce, a nationally-recognized expert on frac sand health risks, is a Professor of Environmental Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He, his interns and students will present information on recent scientific studies regarding frac sand dust at the Colfax Municipal Building in the Cozy Theater located at 613 Main Street in Colfax, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon, March 30th, 2019.  The program will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Dr. Ted Auch spoke at the Eau Claire Grassroots Festival about the current status of fracking, frac sand mining in Wisconsin, and what we can expect in the future. The slide deck from his talk is attached to this article. Please note that the audio quality is sketchy as there was a fairly loud presentation going on in the next room, and the room dividers in this building are not great for sound isolation.

I recently read When the Hills Are Gone - a book about the sand mining activists in Wisconsin during the period of the frac sand boom. The author, Thomas W. Pearson, is an associate professor of anthropology at UW-Stout. A disclaimer - I've known Tom for years, particularly since the frac sand activist period documented in this book.

Save The Hills Alliance held its annual meeting on Oct. 21, 2017 at the Marten Community Center in Mondovi. The theme of the meeting was Effective Communication and Civic Engagement: Strategies, Techniques & Importance. There were two speakers at the meeting. LeAnn R Ralph, staff writer for the Colfax messenger and the Glenwood City Tribune Press Reporter spoke about Communicating in a Democracy: Letters to the Editor and speaking to elected officials.
