The League of Women Voters  of Greater Chippewa Valley, the Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce, and WisCommunity will present a candidate forum of all seven of the candidates running for the three open seats on the board of the School District of the Menomonie Area on February 7, 2022 at 7 PM. The live stream will be carried on this page. 

The six top vote getters in the primary will move on to the spring election on April 5, where the top three will win seats on the school board.

In order to provide sufficient physical distancing, in-person attendance for the public Board meeting will be limited to 25 people. This school board meeting was very crowded. There were no empty seats in the room and all of the parking spaces were full. This was due to a combination of proud parents of Oaklawn students and people who came to the meeting to speak or observe.

The planned band trip at spring break has had to be canceled due to new travel advisories about the coronavirus crisis.

Oaklawn students did a presentation on their project to promote acts of kindness and peace.

Menomonie Cares has donated $400 from Menomonie Cares for a Native American Dance event next school year.

This is the video recording of the Menomonie School District special meeting of 9/24/2018. Particular items of interest include a discussion of the Home Sweet Menomonie program and if the district should contribute funds to it to help pay for down payments on homes for people moving to Menomonie for jobs, and a particularly spirited discussion continued from the last meeting about funding for the second phase of development for the Sports Complex.

D. Build Your Own Curriculum - this is a tool for teachers and parents to look at the different classes and to build a curriculum for a student. It should be available on the district website by Aug 21. There is a demonstration of the tool in the video.

We are starting a new project aimed at recording local government meetings.  This is, in essence, an experiment. This is the first of those recordings, of the Menomonie School Board meeting from this Monday. Some of these meeting rooms are challenging due to arrangement, lighting, sound, etc. We will attempt to improve the quality of these meetings as time goes on. 

Incumbent Candidates Penny Burstad, Urs Haltinner, and James Swanson participated in the candidate forum that was held at the Mabel Tainter in Menomonie on March 27 along with challenging candidates Chris Freeman and Patricia Thompson. Challenging candidate John Strey was unable to attend. 

The forum was presented by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Chippewa Valley.
