Tony Evers - The Crisis of our Democracy

Tony Evers

As I travel across this state, meeting Wisconsinites of all ages and from all walks of life, I have never been more optimistic for our future.

From researchers at UW-Madison who are one step closer to finding a cure for cancer to family farmers who are using innovation, creativity and technology to change the course of small-scale agriculture in Wisconsin – I continue to be amazed by the strength, ingenuity and determination of our people.

Breaking - Judge Niess refuses Walker Special Election Delay

Judge Richard Niess

Judge Richard Niess just ruled that Governor Walker must stick to the original timeline set by last week's ruling on the two special elections in Wisconsin. This means that Walker must call a special election by noon Thursday, and the attempts to change the law by the state legislature are apparently moot.   The original judge in the case was not immediately available, so the hearing was held by Judge Niess.

Walker asks judge to give the state more time to change election law

Scott Walker

The State Department of Justice has asked judge Josann Reynolds to change the deadline for Walker to call new elections for two vacant seats in the state legislature. A recent ruling by the Dane County judge required Walker to call a special election for the seats previously held by Sen. Frank Lasee, (R - De Pere) and Rep. Keith Ripp (R - Lodi) after Walker decided that he would not hold elections as required by the law, but that he would hold off until the Nov. general election.

Dane Co. judge rules Walker must hold special elections

Scott Walker

Dane County Court judge Josann Reynolds today ruled that the state must hold a special election for the two seats recently vacated in the State Legislature. Judge Reynolds was appointed by Scott Walker in 2014. The lawsuit was brought by the National Redistricting Foundation, and affiliate of Eric Holder's National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

This is largely seen as a blow to Republicans in Wisconsin....

What's At Issue in Wisconsin's Special Elections Lawsuit

In Newton v. Walker, filed in Dane County Circuit Court on Feb. 26, 2018, voters in the state Legislature's vacant 1st Senate District and 42nd Assembly District are trying to convince a judge that state law requires Gov. Scott Walker...

Patty Schachtner wins race in SD 10

Patty Schachtner

In a surprisingly big victory last night, Democratic candidate Patty Schachtner defeated Republican Adam Jarchnow in the race for State Senate District 10. This was considered a bellweather race nationally, revolving around a state senate seat that had been held for 17 years by Republican Sheila Harsdorf, who has left the Senate to take a place in the Walker administration.  This is one of a growing string of red-to-blue seat reversals around the country, and does not bode well for...

Counting our chickens before they're hatched

Foxconn Workers

All of Wisconsin is apparently agog over the Foxconn plant announcement that is coming this afternoon. Still, color me skeptical. Rumors are that Wisconsin is offering a huge tax break to Foxconn in return for building the plant, and the state has certainly paved the way by stomping on unions and generally making the living wage a past dream, something that Foxconn is certainly going to appreciate. But rumors abound that the state is offering somewhere between $100,000 and $300,000 per job...
