The Wisconsin DHS will hold a Vaccine Q&A session today at 1:30 PM. We expect this session to cover information about the new expansion of vaccine availability to all Wisconsin residents over age 65.
Today the state is reporting 42 more deaths due to COVID-19, so DHS is emphasizing again that we need to continue to follow good practices to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Wisconsin is seeing significant COVID-19 activity, and data show that this is at least partly due to activities like gatherings. Data obtained from contact tracing calls indicate that the percent of people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 who reported attending a gathering, party, or other meet up with people outside their home in the past two weeks grew from 7% of cases in May to 21% of cases in June and 20% of cases in July.
Today's media briefing will include Governor Evers, DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm, Dept. of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar, Chief Medical officer of the Bureau of Communicable Diseases Dr. Ryan Westergaard, and Chief Legal Counsel Ryan Nilsestuen. It will be held to update the status of Wisconsin's COVID-19 response. The meeting will start at 1:30 PM.
