MADISON, WI--Today, Tony Evers released the following statement regarding the start of oral arguments in Texas v. Azar, the lawsuit brought by Texas, Wisconsin and 18 other states seeking to overturn the Affordable Care Act and gut protections for an estimated 2.4 million Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions:

#000000;">“Wisconsin’s involvement in this case is yet another reminder of Scott Walker’s relentless attack on Wisconsinites’ access to quality and affordable health care.  Because of Walker's decision to sign off on this dangerous lawsuit, protections for the estimated 2.4 million Wisconsinites with a preexisting condition are at risk. If he gets his way, we'll go back to the time when insurance companies could charge more or deny coverage altogether because you were battling asthma, diabetes, or even cancer-- as I did ten years ago.

#000000;">“As governor, I will put the political games aside to make sure everyone in Wisconsin has access to affordable care. That means protecting people with preexisting conditions, finally accepting the federal funds to fully expand healthcare to 70,000 Wisconsinites and working to stabilize health care markets to bring costs down. No one in Wisconsin should go broke just because they get sick. It’s time we have a governor who agrees.”
