Representative Emerson Statement on SCOTUS Gerrymandering Ruling MADISON –
Today, the US Supreme Court issued a ruling in Rucho v. Common Cause rejecting efforts to put an end to partisan gerrymandering. Rep. Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response: “Nonpartisan studies show that Wisconsin has some of the most gerrymandered maps in the country, and this extreme practice must end. Republicans went behind closed doors and rigged our state maps in order to continue to maintain power year after year. “This is not how a Democracy should operate. Voters should be able to choose who represents them, not politicians picking and choosing who they represent. “The fight for fair maps is not over with today’s court ruling. I will continue to fight and advocate for this issue and that is why last month I was honored to join my Democratic colleagues in cosponsoring 2019 Assembly Bill 303/2019 Senate Bill 288, which would create a non-partisan redistricting process for Wisconsin.” ###
