Menomonie has for some years been working on a project to reduce the amount of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and phosphorus in the city's stormwater runoff. On 7/15/2020 Randy Eide, Director of Public Works in Menomonie, gave a presentation to the Environmental Action (HEAT) team of the Health Dunn Right initiative. This is a recording of that presentation.

Eau Claire COVID-19 Update on masks and public health

This is a community meeting of many people and organizations on preventing the spread of the virus and the importance of wearing masks and following other best practices.

The City-County Health Department also today released a "Mask Up Eau Claire" statement of multiple partners in the county encourage mask use in public places. 

DNR Assisting With Cleanup Of Manure Spill Near Pulaski

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff is assisting with cleanup efforts of a manure spill near Pulaski in Oconto County that entered the Little Suamico River.

Late last week and over the weekend, surface-applied manure from Betley Farms near Pulaski, ran off the intended application site and into the Little Suamico River.

Today Governor Evers announced a new committee to expand broadband availability in the state.  He also covered other developments in economic recovery in the state from the pandemic. He reiterated that economic recovery in the state largely depends on controlling the growth of the pandemic, and that we are now seeing record increases in cases, particularly in the past week.

COVID-19 cases continue their upward climb in Wisconsin

For the third day in a row, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the state per day has hit a record high. Today's report from the Department of Health Services shows a new high of 926 cases reported in the state. Although it is true that the number of tests being done in the state has increased greatly the percentage of tests that are positive also has been rising over the last few days, with over 8% of the tests done in the past 24 hours reported as positive.

Gov. Evers Releases Statement on State Supreme Court's Ruling on Lame Duck

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today released the following statement in response to the Wisconsin Supreme Court's ruling upholding provisions of the lame duck laws passed by the State Legislature in December of 2018:  

“We had a race for governor in 2018. I won. Unfortunately, things got off on the wrong foot because Republicans immediately passed a law overriding the will of the people and the election, and they’ve been sour grapes ever since.

Evacuations underway in Eau Claire - update

We are now seeing reports that the gas leak in Eau Claire has been contained with no further damage, and the evacuation is being canceled.

Yesterday a house exploded.  This morning Highway 53 was shut down and the neighborhood evacuated due to a truck spilling Ammonium Hydrate and diesel on the highway, with fear of explosion.

According to a press release from the Dunn County Health Department this morning, people attending the Knapp Valley Riders 4th of July event  in Knapp, Wisconsin may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus. People who attended the event and who are experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms should report this to their medical provider and be tested.

The Eau Claire CIty and County Health Department has issued a new public health order that advises new restrictions due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the county. The new order takes place at midnight tonight for Eau Claire County, and the primary changes in the new order (which is in effect until July 22 unless further changes are needed in the interim) include:

Chippewa County Department of Public Health is alerting the public of potential COVID-19 exposure at the following Chippewa County locations:

Cornell Street Dance, Fireworks, and Parade: July 3, 2020

We recommend if you were at any of these locations during the provided timeframe AND are experiencing or develop symptoms of COVID-19 that you contact a healthcare provider to be tested.

Today's meeting looks forward to the next year, how to fix the large loss of money for recycling, and how to deal with the quickly decaying facilities for solid waste disposal and recycling. 

There was much discussion about many topics in the meeting,. but they did vote to approve increases in fees for many recycling items as attached.
