Potential COVID-19 Exposure in Dunn County

The Dunn County Health Department has issued a notice of a potential COVID-19 exposure in Dunn County for the evenings of July 28 and 29. A possibility for exposure exists for customers of "A local taxi service within Menomonie city limits that only accepts cash." 

People who believe they may have been exposed should call their health care provider out of an abundance of caution.

The Mabel Tainter board of directors today announced that all shows will be canceled through the end of November due to the pandemic. The board also announced that the current Executive Director, Jeff Sweeney, will be leaving the theater during the period it is shut down and will take a position as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the 7 Rivers Region based in La Crosse, WI.

I spoke today with Dunn County Health Administrator KT Gallagher about the new order from Governor Evers requiring face coverings for people in indoor public settings, and how the new mandate will affect citizens in the county, and how it may affect school opening, etc. 

Eau Claire County Health Department Administrator Lieske Geise held a media conference today about the situation in Eau Claire County as well.

Governor Evers mandates mask wearing state-wide

This afternoon Governor Tony Evers issued an emergency health order mandating the wearing of face masks throughout the state. The order is effective at 12:01 AM Saturday, August 1 and remains in effect until September 28 or until replaced by a new order.

The order mandates wearing masks when indoors and not in a private residence, with some exceptions outlined in the order.

On July 28 Menomonie Police Chief Eric Atkinson spoke for over two hours to a large public crowd in Wilson Park. His talk covered a wide range of ideas, from the history of policing to the current pushes toward more police reform, particularly in reference to charges of unequal treatment of people of color by the police, the current BLM protests, and more. The talk was part of the ongoing Community Conversations series in Menomonie.

Chippewa County COVID-19 cases double in three weeks

In a briefing today Chippewa County Health Director Angie Weideman expressed concern about the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the county. Currently, there have been 200 confirmed cases in the county. Half of these cases have been recorded in the past three weeks, so the pace of infections has increased greatly. The county is currently rating the risk level in the county as "high".
