Wiscommunity - fixed a few errors

October 6, 2016

Though I suspect this probably only affected me at the moment, there've been a few serious issues in editing on the site. This cropped up from some setting changes I'd made recently while trying to debug a different problem on the site. Sigh.  Anyway, I'd accidentally set the site to use a version of jquery that broke some of the editing, particularly things that had popups. This mostly made it impossible to change the image at the top of each community page.

Okay, so as someone who loves both the Gilmore Girls AND coffee, I have to admit that I think this is brilliant. Coffee shops around the country are going to bein honor of the new Gilmore Girls episodes that are coming up.

Internet of Things - taking over our brains AND our computers

October 3, 2016

One of the great promises of modern life is the Internet of Things - you know, where all those little gadgets and thingy-dos in your world are connected to the internet, and we can control them and talk to them and interact from everywhere. This is a really slick bunch of stuff and a lot of it is intriguing, and remarkably cheap, all things considered.

Gene Wilder DIes

Gene Wilder - Young Frankenstein (1974) - Puttin' on the Ritz

August 29, 2016

Sadly, Gene Wilder died yesterday at the age of 83. Mr. Wilder has delighted me and made me laugh over the years, often at times when I most needed it. I particularly continue to be amazed at his performance in Young Frankenstein, one of my favorite films on many levels. He apparently died from complications from Alzheimer's and had kept his diagnosis a secret in an attempt to not upset his fans.

Cord Cutting - A journey Part 1

Cord Cutting
July 25, 2016

I am embarking on a great venture - cutting the cord on our TV service. I will occasionally write about this here, including the trials and tribulations (as well as successes) as I move along.  For some time now we've had our TV service with our local phone co-op, and have generally been happy with it. Recently though we've discovered that when our contract was coming up for renewal the price of service had increased dramatically.
