After a half-hour of discussion and an amendment, this was passed unanimously

B. Update to the SDMA Employee Handbook - 1:01 

This was an adjustment to accrual of leave for hourly employees that, in view of the pandemic, allows them to use their leave before it is accrued. It passed unanimously

Gov. Evers, WisDOT, DOA Announce $18 Million in Public Transit Grants for Wisconsin Communities

Governor Evers requests Kenosha support from other states

MADISON —​ Gov. Tony Evers requested other states, under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), to bring additional National Guard troops, equipment, and resources to Kenosha to support civil authorities there.

EMAC is a mutual aid agreement that allows governors to provide state-to-state assistance during declared states of emergency. It will enable other states to provide resources such as National Guard troops and equipment to the requesting state.

Over the last four months, I was honored to participate in the Governor’s Task Force on Student Debt, established by Governor Tony Evers to address the student debt crisis impacting more than 700,000 Wisconsinites. The latest statistic from the Board of Governors shows the level of student debt owed has reached a mind-boggling $1.7 trillion; Wisconsin, alone, has more than $24 billion in student loan debt, according to the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In a wide-ranging and very long meeting tonight the School Board of the District of the Menomonie area took many actions relating to the opening of schools, and held the Annual Meeting. The evening's agenda was to hold the School Board meeting before the school's annual meeting, but the board meeting was much too long to fit into the allotted one-hour slot, so it was continued after the Annual Meeting.

Today Governor Evers and Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes released an executive order calling the Wisconsin State Legislature into a Special Session on policing accountability and transparency convening at noon on Aug. 31, 2020. The announcement comes after Jacob Blake, a Black man, was shot repeatedly in the back by a law enforcement officer in Kenosha.   Evers and Barnes addressed state citizens on this issue this afternoon in this video.

After a VERY lengthy discussion, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has voted 5-1 to reject Kanye West's candidacy in Wisconsin, accepting the staff recommendation that they reject because the papers were filed after 5 PM  on the last eligible day.

Covering the Menomonie School Board has from the start been emotionally trying. I'm the guy who is almost always at the school board meeting, first doing video recordings and recently doing live streams. Through the past 2 years give or take I've seen a lot of dysfunctional behavior on the board, and a number of incidents that have left me shaking my head. The board regularly exhibits passive-aggressive behavior that at times borders on toxic.
