American Inheritance: Liberty and Slavery in the Birth of a Nation

This  Wednesday, November 15 the Center for Applied Ethics is sponsoring an event:   “American Inheritance:  Liberty and Slavery in the Birth of a Nation”.  Keynote speaker is Dr. Edward J Larson, recipient of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize in History.  The event is being held in the Memorial Student Center, Ballroom A at UW-Stout.

Banned Books Event at UW-Stout

Wisconsin’s Secretary of State (SoS) has a diverse mission that includes working with local clerks, supporting businesses and facilitating economic development, supporting civic engagement, and strengthening democracy. Political power grabs over the years have created undue barriers and confusion about the Secretary of State’s role. As a result, Secretary Godlewski has worked with legislative counsel and secretaries across the country to understand the important and impactful Federal and state responsibilities.

Community Conversations - Citizens United

In November of 2014, 72% of the voters of Dunn County voted yes to a referendum to amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.  The Citizens United decision has opened the floodgates of money into elections.  Should money be equated with speech? - that gives the ultra-wealthy a megaphone in our elections.  Should we give all the human rights of our citizens to artificial entities such as corporations?  Should our representatives have the right to pass legislation to place limits on spending in our elections?

Governor Evers at UW-Stout

MADISON – Gov. Evers, together with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC), announced today the statewide Internet for All Wisconsin Listening Tour, a series of nine in-person and two virtual interactive meetings to help develop the state’s five-year action plan to deploy high-speed internet and improve internet affordability and adoption.

State Budget Hearing Eau Claire

The public hearing will go from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Anyone who wants to testify will be asked to fill out a form to be added to the queue. The earlier you are added to the queue, the sooner your name will be called to testify, so it’s good to arrive early.

 

Generally each person gets two minutes to share their comments to the Joint Finance Committee, or five minutes for groups of three or more. Having printed comments of your testimony for each of the 16 members in encouraged. If you need accessibility accommodations, call the Legislative Fiscal Bureau at (608) 266-3847.
