Showcasing Sustainable Initiatives in Dunn County & Menomonie

Meeting human needs fairly and efficiently were the inspiring goals of Sustainable Dunn in 2006. The group planned programs that educated the community about issues such as water protection, energy conservation, gardening, food choices, air quality, green building, and more. Group members also began meeting with City and County officials to discuss possible sustainable practices that would save money and and the environment. This discussion led to the planning of several consecutive yearly Sustainability Fairs held at the local city parks. These attracted many community members who enjoyed presentations about how to implement sustainability in their own lives.

In January 2011 Sustainable Dunn joined forces with the Tainter/Menomin Lake Improvement Association and several other community groups to present a “Year of Water” program at the Mabel Tainter Theater. It attracted a full house of attendees and inspired the Tainter/Menomin Lake Association to continue presenting Water Conferences at UW Stout every year since.

Sustainability continues to be an important part of the planning and implementation of projects and updates that involve all members of the Dunn County Community. Leaders of many important City and County offices meet bimonthly with sustainability community members at what is now known as  the “Joint Sustainable Working Group” to discuss progress and hopes for the future. It is a time to be inspired by the local leaders that make Menomonie and Dunn Co. a great place to live.

For this reason, Sustainable Dunn is hosting a panel presentation on Monday, April 30 showcasing the “Growth of Sustainable Practices in Menomonie and Dunn County”. Eight local leaders will discuss the sustainable innovations they have completed and some new ideas for the future.
