University of Wisconsin Becky Blank announced today that the University of Wisconsin Madison will cancel all classes from September 10-12, and all classes will be virtual starting Monday September 14 for at least two weeks.
She also announced that all residents of Sellery and Witte residence halls will quarantine in place starting at 10 PM Wednesday, Sept. 8 and continuing for two weeks. All residents who have not been tested for COVID-19 must be tested by Friday.
All in-person study spaces, the Wisconsin Union, and all academic buildings will be closed for the period as well. Other restrictions have been put in place as outlined in the letter.
This is due to the continuing outbreak of positive cases at the university. Previously it was believed most of the cases were originating off-campus, but many of the recent cases have been spread in the two residence halls which are being quarantined. For the past two days more than 20% of the tests on campus have been positive.
