Where did Channel 13 go? July 3, 2020 - 8:00pm

If you watch WEAU, Channel 13 on an antenna (as opposed to cable or an over-the-top provider) you may have found that Channel 13 disappeared this afternoon. Many TV stations are changing frequency due to an FCC auction of frequencies. Channel 13 changed frequencies at 2 PM today. If you are not getting Channel 13 you will need to re-scan on your television sets to continue to receive the channel.

It's Fourth of July weekend in Wisconsin. It's normally a time for outdoors, fireworks, fun, and crowds. But not so much this year. Lots of activities are being scaled back, but many of you are going to want to go out and have a normal 4th. I get it.

Frac sand supplier Covia files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy July 1, 2020 - 12:25pm

Frac sand supplier Covia has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In Wisconsin, Covia has facilities in Columbia, Dunn, Monroe, Pierce and Waupaca counties, including the only frac sand mine in Dunn. Covia has entered into a cost-reduction agreement with its secured creditors, and intends to reduce costs by $1 billion. Covia owns 32 mines, and is a result of the merger of Unimin and Fairmont Santrol. This news follows the recent news that frac sand supplier Hi-Crush, which also has facilities in Wisconsin, was declaring Chapter 11 protection.

Dane County order closes bars, limits restaurants July 1, 2020 - 10:43am

After a week of quickly-increasing COVID-19 cases in young people, and 21% of the cases stemming from bars, the Madison and Dane County Health Department this morning ordered a reduction in capacity for restaurants and the shuttering of all bars for any non-takeout service.

In doing so the county is temporarily abandoning its to re-open the county. Starting at 8 AM on Thursday the following take effect:

Matt Rothschild - Cynical Appeals Court Helps Wisconsin GOP June 30, 2020 - 3:10pm

The outrageous decision by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago to limit early voting in Wisconsin was a gift to Wisconsin Republicans.

The three-judge panel – all appointed by Republicans – overturned the decision by Judge James Peterson of Madison, who had ruled that parts of the Voter ID law limiting early voting were unconstitutional because they were aimed at reducing African American turnout.

League of Women Voters files suit on failure of absentee ballot system June 30, 2020 - 11:32am

[MADISON, Wis.] – Despite the heroic efforts of municipal clerks preparing and mailing out an unprecedented number of absentee ballots in Wisconsin’s April 7 election (more than 1.2 million ballot requests were made), the system experienced a catastrophic failure as numerous ballots were never delivered to voters who requested them or arrived too late for voters to cast them.

Apologies to the Eurythmics. But you will notice the big red banner at the top of the site is telling you we are under a flash flood warning. They mean it. People in the area are reporting various amounts of rainfall from 5-8 inches since this started last night, and it's still coming down hard here outside of Downsville. The farm rain gauge broke the other day so I do not know what we have received here, but it's a lot of rain.

Receive non-perishable food, produce, dairy, meat, and some non-food items. No ID is required. You may pick up for another household if they are unable to attend on their own.
