UW-Stout Associate Professor Dave Beck will present Tombeaux -- a first-person exploration game set in a historically accurate 3D environment. Developed as a solo art, design, and research project, this interactive historical experience investigates the convergence between cultures and the environment across a few hundred years of midwestern American history. The game takes place on a small section of the St. Croix River. Through exploration, the player discovers various unique objects, environments, and narratives, all of which cause reflection upon our history and our future. The game is available for download via the official game site at: http://www.tombeauxgame.com/

Beck will talk about the research behind creating Tombeaux, which includes creative, place-based, and historical research. After the presentation, a demo of the game will be available for visitors to experience.

Dave Beck is a practicing 3D digital, game, and new media artist and designer. He is the recipient of the 2010 International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge Award, given by the National Science Foundation. He was also the founding Director of the Game Design BFA, which is ranked as one of the top game design programs in the country by the Princeton Review.
