MSP Film Society presents the second annual MSP Iranian Film Festival August 15-18, 2019 at the Film Society’s Screen 3 at St. Anthony Main Theatre. The Festival showcases acclaimed and award-winning new Iranian cinema, and presents a variety of themes, genres, and perspectives of contemporary Iran.

The 2019 lineup will have the area premieres of 7 feature films, including actor/writer/director Payman Maadi’s moving Iran-Iraq War-set drama, Bomb, A Love Story, starring Maadi and Leila Hatami (both starred in Asghar Farhadi's Oscar winning A Separation); director Kamal Tabrizi's comedic political satire Sly; Director Mona Zandi Haghighi's affecting and compassionate drama of strength and reunion, African Violet; Director Pooya Badkoobeh’s award-winning coming-of-age drama about disaffected youth, Dressage; Hedieh Tehrani (who played the lead role in the 2018 MSP Iranian Film Festival selection Israfil) turns in a standout performance as a strong contractor in a male dominated industry in Orange Days; in the inspirational documentary, The Girls, Fery Malek-Madani travels to provincial cities across Iran to ask young girls about their dreams and aspirations; and finally, Tehran-born, Mexico City-based writer/director Bani Khoshnoudi's fish out of water drama set in Veracruz, Mexico, Fireflies, was influenced by current politics in Iran as well as a real-life story of a man transported across the world on a container ship and left disoriented in a strange new land.
