Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19 that the Union soldiers, led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

The Juneteenth Celebration in Eau Claire is free and open to the public. It will bring together area residents to celebrate their commitment towards a more united community enriched by its diversity. It will take place in Carson Park's Pine Pavilion and there will be food, music, guest speakers, and activities for children.
