Wetlands: Walker doesn't get it

Bass Pro Shops, prospective anchor tenant for a Green Bay development that Scott Walker is willing to change the law and fill wetlands to attract, says it is out.  It is an environmental-friendly sporting goods company, and it does not fill wetlands.

Walker's response, according to WisPolitics' report to subscribers;

The company issued a statement today saying it has a "long and proud tradition" of conservation and has been recognized for those efforts.

"We were unaware of any wetlands issues and have not and will not be in favor of doing anything to harm wetlands wherever they might be," the company said.

Walker said the company may reconsider if legislation aimed at allowing the development passes quickly.

"This is exactly the kind of thing we're trying to fix in the future," he said. "We want to conserve natural resources; there's a plan to do that, more than makes up for that. I think if we had a good, quick vote that had a good vote total to it, I think we could convince, whether it's that development or any other, to move forward."

The company does not want to harm wetlands it said.  Walker thinks that if enough Republicans vote to harm wetlands, the company will change its mind?

Sometimes things are about values, not politics or even money.  Bass Pro Shops no doubt is in the money-making business, but cares about its image.  Too bad Walker doesn't have a clue about that.
