Walker's real goal: No rules for business

Scott Walker has announced his plan to replace the state Commerce Department with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., a public-private partnership with a chief executive officer and a 12-member board of directors. Guess who would serve as chairman? Right, Emperor Walker.

But here's the clincher, from the WisPolitics summary, if you're wondering what this is really all about (emphasis mine):

The Commerce Department’s current regulatory responsibilities would be reviewed and either assigned to a difference agency or eliminated.

Just think of the great things corporate Wisconsin could do if it didn't have all those regulations getting in the way.

Combine that with Walker's plan to stymie the issuance of any new rules by state agencies, and Wisconsin will be a corporate paradise. Think of  the amusement park in Pinocchio, where the only rule is that there are no rules.

In case there was any doubt, that's what he means by creating a business-friendly environment. If Walker gets his way, Wisconsin will not only open for business; it will be groveling and licking business' boots.

All in all, it looks like a good investment of corporate campaign dollars into Walker's campaign by Wis. Manufacturers and Commerce, Metropolitan Milwaukee Assn. of Commerce, and the U.S. Chamber.
