What does Scott Walker have against the arts? Are there too many liberal artists and art lovers?

Elsewhere on this site, Man MKE points out that Walker's budget would cut arts funding by about three quarters, eliminate the Arts Board and put art under the Dept. of Tourism, which thinks art is a billboard with Yogi Bear advertising a campground.

Nothing remotely artsy escapes Walker's ax. Even the state's poet laureate program, which costs $2,000 a year, and started by Tommy Thompson, will end, as AV Club laments.

Meet the state's current -- and, if Walker prevails, last --poet laureate, Bruce Dethlefsen.

At some point, you have to conclude this is not about saving a few bucks. It's a philosophy, an ideology, on display. The barbarians are inside the gates.
