News item: As Governor-elect Scott Walker met with President Barack Obama on Thursday, he signaled he would be willing to implement some aspects of the controversial federal health care reform law in Wisconsin by using a "free-market" approach.

Because it has worked so well in the past, presumably.

Meanwhile, in Arizona, the NY Times reports that state budget cuts mean some people will be denied organ transplants that would save their lives -- a death sentence.

Wisconsin probably won't see anything that dramatic, but if Walker follows through on his plans to kick people off of BadgerCare, there is little doubt some of them will die as a result. A Harvard study found that 45,000 people a year die in the US because they lack health care coverage. We won't know who they are, but if thousands of Wisconsin residents are denied health insurance by Walker, it will be a death sentence for some of them. Happy holidays.
