Requiring Eau Claire establishments serving alcohol to post signs reminding customers it is illegal to drink while carrying a gun could help prevent the kinds of dangerous situations opponents of Wisconsin's concealed carry law worry about, an Eau Claire City Council member said.
"This would help ensure safety," councilman Dave Duax said of fellow councilman Mark Olson's proposal to force the city's taverns and restaurants that sell alcohol to post signs reminding armed patrons they can't consume alcohol.
...Olson, who introduced the proposal on Tuesday, said the provision preventing consuming alcohol while carrying a gun hasn't received much publicity.
Milwaukee's Common Council has passed a resolution urging local taverns to post signs prohibiting weapons altogether, which is another option under the law. Even in the Old West saloons, people checked their guns at the door.
