Smackdown! Cap Times rips State Journal on its treatment of Herb Kohl retirement

In an editorial reminiscent of the days when the Capital Times and Wisconsin State Journal used to go after each other, no holds barred,  on a daily basis, the Cap Times tears State Journal editorial page editor Scott Milfred a new one for his dismissal of Sen. Herb Kohl's years of service.

Says the C-T, responding to " the newspaper that endorsed George Bush for president (twice) and backed Scott Walker for governor:"

... Kohl was considered to be one of the most diligent advocates in the nation’s capital for children’s rights, safe schools, enforcement of antitrust laws, protection of the interests of dairy farmers in the Upper Midwest, and an independent judiciary.

No, Kohl did not govern by press release, as the State Journal would apparently prefer. No, Kohl did not engage in partisan gamesmanship or ideological warfare.

He simply responded to constituents, watched out for the needs of Wisconsinites, and forged bipartisan coalitions that allowed him to cut through the gridlock in Washington more often than most senators...

“Where was he? What was he doing?” If the State Journal really wants to ask questions with regard to a senator, it should ask those questions about Ron Johnson, not Herb Kohl.

Well said. Makes you wish they'd mix it up more often.
