SIPPING FROM THE WIS GOP'S POISONOUS GRAIL OF WISDOM

If you think what's going on right now at the State Capitol is bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. The neoconservatives in the Republican majority have more plans. Disturbing, even deadly plans. Of course they don't see it that way, but then, they don't often seem to live in a reality-based world. The latest outrage in the making: Senate Bill 19, introduced by, among others, the always estimable (and we don't mean that as a compliment) Glenn Grothman (R-Over the Bend).  Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau:

Current law requires the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to administer a safe drinking water program and to establish all safeguards that DNR determines to be necessary in protecting public health from impure drinking water supplies.  DNR has promulgated a rule that requires municipal drinking water systems to provide continuous disinfection of the water that they provide, beginning no later than December 1, 2013. This bill prohibits DNR from requiring a municipal water system to provide continuous disinfection of the water that it provides, unless continuous disinfection is required under federal law.

So, drink up! And drink to your health! Because the time to do that appears to be getting very, very short.
