Sen. Ron Johnson, who said during the campaign he would never publicly criticize US military policy publicly even if he disagreed with it, won't have to worry about keeping his word.

After a whirlwind visit to Afganistan and Pakistan, where he apparently had a few minutes to be on the ground,Johnson now says he's "more hopeful" about the mission:

“We’ve sacrificed so many lives and so many dollars in this effort, and it’s such an important effort in terms of our national security, we have to see this thing through. And I honestly believe if we see this thing through, I believe we can do it,” Johnson told reporters in a conference call from Afghanistan at the end of his trip. ..

“We cannot set artificial deadlines. We have got to be committed to these things. I think if we stay committed I think we can do this,” said Johnson.

“From what I saw on the ground … I don’t think we’re talking decades,” he said, when asked about how long he would be willing to see U.S. troops fighting in Afghanistan. “You may have a presence here of advisers for quite some time. I can’t sit here and estimate how many years. But the fact of the matter is we are making progress."

So the guy who went to DC to get spending under control is going to keep adding hundreds of billions of dollars ($370-billion so far) to the deficit, throwing good money after bad, on a bloody, senseless war we can't possibly win.

Is that what Wisconsin voted for?
