Reclaiming Nov. 11 as Armistice Day

A program with speakers and music in Milwaukee’s City Hall rotunda at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, will mark Armistice Day, a day proclaimed to mark the end of World War I and to promote world peace, which has become Veterans Day.

Vera Roddy, a women’s veteran advocate, and Matt Rothschild, editor of The Progressive, are the featured speakers. The theme is “How is the war economy working for you?” Veterans Jason Moon and Richard Pinney, singer-songwriters, will perform.

The event, sponsored by Milwaukee Veterans for Peace and Vietnam Veterans Against the War, is free and open to the public, It is the second annual observance at City Hall.

Veterans for Peace has been barred from marching in the city’s Veterans Day parade, on the grounds that the non-profit organization, whose main project is a Homeless Veterans Initiative, is “political.”
