Republican officals and rightwing talking heads continue to assert the falsehood that the Wisconsin recall was intended to be used for "high crimes and misdemeanors."
Actually that is the criteria for impeachment in the U.S. Constitution.
In the Wisconsin Constitution the criteria for impeachment is "corrupt conduct in office, or for crimes and misdemeanors."
The O-N-L-Y criteria for recall in the Wisconsin constitution, however, is that 25% of the electorate want a recall election. That is the only criteria. There is ZERO mention of misconduct in office, crimes, or anything else that we typically think of with impeachment.
The idea of the Wisconsin recall is simply to act as a check on elected officials: If they anger a significantly large portion of their electorate, they very well be recalled.
