PCCC,  DFA, and MoveOn have announced a new ad, and a new ad buy this morning. I think this is an effective ad against Alberta Darling (about whom you'll hear more later today).

The recalls in Wisconsin are really important, and it would be a great thing for Wisconsin if the Democrats can pick up at least three seats and turn over the Senate, which would stop the rubber-stamping of the Scott Walker/ALEC/right-wing agenda.

But I also have to say that I have mixed feelings. (Jim Hightower has often said that mixed feelings is when your daughter comes home from the prom with a Gideon Bible).  I'm a little alarmed by the fiscal escalation in the state.  This recall election will involve the spending of unprecedented amounts of money, all of which is fueled by the effective removal of all limits on campaign spending.  I am receiving a torrent of email from both sides here - people are tired of being bombarded everywhere by ads.  I understand why it happens, and I personally endorse all of the Democratic candidates in these recalls. But I think that this all indicates the need for some serious campaign finance reform, and for doing something about the Citizens United ruling.  This ad is accompanied by an initial $265,000 ad buy in three markets.  The spending by the right-wing groups is also astounding.  I'd like to see this unfettered spending on campaigning scaled back to a reasonable level, and I'm sure many of the rest of you would as well.

In the end, I think this race really will be determined by boots on the ground - at least I hope so, since I think the Democrats have a real advantage there. After all that being said -- here's the ad.  If you want to help out with the campaign, you can contribute here -.
