Journey for Justice Wednesday aims at gun violence

On Wednesday, July 11th, (WAVE) staff and board will embark on a Journey for Justice, traveling by foot, bike and even rollerblades, to raise awareness about gun violence. 

“We’ll be traveling 86 miles, which represents the 86 people who are killed with guns every day in our country, said Jeri Bonavia, executive director of WAVE Educational Fund.  “And then, we’ll be going an extra mile as a sign of our determination to do whatever it takes to prevent the type of violence that has devastated so many families and communities.” 

The journey will begin with a 9 am news conference in Shorewood and end at 5:30 pm with a tribute ceremony and press event in Mequon.  The public is invited to participate.

Wednesday, July 11th 

9:00 am – Press Conference; River Park in Shorewood (on E. River Park Ct., just west of the intersection of Edgewood Ave. and Oakland Ave.)

9:30 am – 5:30 pm  – WAVE staff to complete the Journey for Justice, traveling through Milwaukee, going north to Port Washington, and ending in the Mequon Nature Preserve.  The closing tribute ceremony will include an optional short walk to help us complete the extra mile, which will be immediately followed by a press event with comments from the victims’ families, elected officials and others, as well as the presentation of peace cranes.
