And those two well-crafted and pithy sentences came in Sunday's New York Times column from economist Paul Krugman. He said this about Ryan's budget document:
It includes a plan to privatize and defund Medicare that would leave many if not most seniors unable to afford health care. And it includes a plan to sharply cut taxes on corporations and to bring the tax rate on high earners down to its lowest level since 1931.
Looks like the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel doesn't agree. It's Politifact column today takes progressive groups to task, essentially calling them liars, for suggesting Ryan's approach will destroy Medicare or at least alter it beyond recognition. Because, because... well, that won't happen right away. So who is the newspaper's brain trust seemingly ready to believe? The Republican Kool-Aid distributors, or a Nobel Prize winning economist? One guess.
