I've been on both sides of interviews (either as interviewer or interviewee) for my entire adult life, and I was stunned to read this story in the NY Times.
Interview subjects have the right to approve and clean up quotes, or refuse to let them be published? Incredible. Am I the only one who thinks so? How did I miss this development?
Can I apply it retroactively?
