Mabel Tainter announces new season

The Mabel Tainter Theatre has announced its upcoming season. The season is wide-ranging including a visit from the ever-popular Charlie Berens to Michael Perry. Also included are tributes to Glen Campbell and Olivia Newton-John, and contemporary jazz singer Diane Schurr.

With most performances banned, or at least a very bad idea, many performers are hurting, and the many new virtual performance opportunities are not cutting it.

I have not made an arts post for a while now. It's time to fix that. The pandemic has meant there's a real paucity of arts going on. For many years I was usually out in Cape Breton this time of year with my wife Lori, to go to the Celtic Colours Festival. Some years we'd go in the summer and hit up the Broad Cove Concert, which is a whole different experience.

This summer has been one continuous story of canceled music festivals and other events, leaving concert promoters and venues struggling financially, and fans disappointed. One of the great Wisconsin festivals every year is Milwaukee Irish Fest. This year Irish Fest is going virtual, and will be starting on Thursday and running through the weekend.

Mabel Tainter cancels shows through November, executive director leaving

The Mabel Tainter board of directors today announced that all shows will be canceled through the end of November due to the pandemic. The board also announced that the current Executive Director, Jeff Sweeney, will be leaving the theater during the period it is shut down and will take a position as Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the 7 Rivers Region based in La Crosse, WI.

Eaux Claires, Ashley for the Arts canceled for 2020

Both the Eaux Claires festival and Ashley for the Arts announced this morning that they are canceling their musical events for the summer of 2020. 

Eaux Claires had previously worked out an agreement with the city of Eau Claire to hold their festival downtown this summer rather than at the prior more rural location. Ashley for the Arts will take place August 12-14 2021.

The new dates will be October 9-11 and 16-18. 

Pablo Center to host Eaux Claires Hiver - Update

This afternoon the announced (via Twitter)  a new smaller version of Eaux Claire, to be held this winter at the Pablo Center. The event is called Eaux Claires Hiver, once again showing Justin Vernon's need to massacre the French language. At least in the video they make fun of it this time. At this point all we know is that tickets go on sale on the 15th.
