Thursdays @ the U | Wis.Community

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Events

Lisa Janty, marathoner, will present "Running: A Great Metaphor for Life" from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, March 14. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) on the UW-Eau Claire Barron County campus. Lisa Janty ran her first marathon in 2007. Since then, she has run close to 30 (but who’s counting?) marathons, in places all over the world….Duluth, Eau Claire, Belin, London, Tokyo, and Boston to name a few. She has earned the World Marathon Major medal and has never let hurricanes or bombs stop her. Why run? Janty will describe the social and emotional benefits of this pursuit, as well as the health benefits of being active. Janty was born and raised in Wisconsin and has lived here most of her life. She and her husband reside in Cumberland and, when not running, she works as an engineer in healthcare. In addition to running, she enjoys biking, gardening and curling. The youngest of 5 sisters, her sisters don’t run with her but are always willing to support her with cheers, Diet Coke and chocolate at the finish. Feel free to attend to join in the discussion about why and where and how to enjoy this pastime, or just to sit back and vicariously appreciate the sport.Lecture attendees are welcome to bring their lunch to the presentation.______________________________________________ Thursdays @ the U lecture series will run throughout the spring semester. The series, partly funded by the UW-Barron County Foundation, will explore topics in the arts, sciences, public affairs, literary fields and cultural areas.
