University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Events

Roxanne Backowski will present “Surviving and Thriving: a Through-hike of the Superior Hiking Trail” from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) on the UW-Eau Claire Barron County campus.Backowski is the Electronic Resources Librarian at UW-Eau Claire’s McIntyre Library. After completing her Master’s in Library and Information Science through UW-Milwaukee in May 2016, she celebrated by hiking the entire 313 mile Superior Hiking Trail. Her trek was from the Wisconsin border (south of Duluth) to the Canadian border (near Pigeon River MN), following the ridgeline along the North Shore of Lake Superior. How does a person not only survive, but thrive, on a three-week hike? Based off her 2016 adventure, Roxanne will share experiences on the trail and how to plan for and execute an extended hiking trip.Lecture attendees are welcome to bring their lunch to the presentation.______________________________________________ Thursdays @ the U lecture series will run throughout the spring semester. The series, partly funded by the UW-Barron County Foundation, will explore topics in the arts, sciences, public affairs, literary fields and cultural areas.
