Search and Rescue/Recovery
When called upon by law enforcement, certified Search and Rescue (SAR) K9s look for the living and the dead - in partnership w/their human handlers - in all those environments. Given the limited number of professional SAR personnel, it is often necessary for search operations to include volunteers with a wide variety of skills & talents. Can you be a search volunteer without a trained K9? Absolutely! Jan Thompson is an Emergency Medical Technician, a K9 Search Specialist, and a member of a K9 Emergency Response Team. She and her (4th) canine partner, Yogi (9 years old), have been doing this essential work since 2000. She will also provide an overview of what civilian volunteers should know and do before responding to a call-out from Law Enforcement. Thompson's talk will be Thursday, May 5th, 12:30-1:30 in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) at the UWEC-Barron County campus. The campus is located at 1800 College Drive in Rice Lake. This and other sessions of the Thursdays at the U Lecture Series are free and open to the public, thanks to financial support from the campus foundation. Neither seating reservations now parking permits are required for campus guests.
