Okayest Hits: A poetry Reading
Dylan will read some of his best poems, which are often fictional, funny, and conversational. He will also discuss the writing process and stories behind several of the poems. Then, he will answer audience questions about the poems he read, about writing poetry, and about being a poet. Finally, he'll read a couple of poems from some of his favorite poets. Loring currently attends the University of Southern Mississippi's PhD program in creative writing, where he also teaches classes in composition. He received his MFA from Minnesota State, Mankato and his BA from the University of Iowa. Before that, Dylan was a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire-Barron County. He's been writing poems for eight years and is currently finishing up his first collection This Smile is Starting to Hurt, which was recently a finalist at Gold Wake Press. His poems have appeared in several journals, including Ninth Letter, New Ohio Review, North American Review, The Laurel Review, and Forklift, Ohio. This and other sessions of this lecture series are held at the UWEC-Barron County campus, which is located at 1800 College Drive in Rice Lake. Each session is in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Ritzinger 234) and each is held from 12:30-1:30 pm. The Thursdays at the U Lecture and Performance series is free and open to the public, thanks to funding from the campus foundation. Reservations are not required for attendance.
