Ask a Scientist: Direct-to-Consumer Genetic Testing | Wis.Community

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Events

Direct-to-consumer genetic testing is very popular, with sales topping $99 million in 2017 and expected to reach nearly $600 million by 2026. But the results of these tests may not be as clear-cut as many people assume. This "Ask a Scientist" session, to be led by UW-Eau Claire biology faculty Dr. Julie Anderson, Dr. Jaime Lyman Gingerich and Dr. Derek Gingerich, will discuss how this genetic testing is done, what some of the results mean, and some of the benefits and risks of this type of genetic testing. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Acoustic Café in downtown Eau Claire.
