The seventh and last “Ask a Scientist” talk of the 2018-19
season will be Professor Seth King of the Department of Physics at the
University of Wisconsin – La Crosse discussing “The (controversial) Physics of
Curling”

Since the US Men’s Curling Team
won Olympic gold in 2018, interest in curling has been sweeping the
nation and across the globe. While many have hurried to slide curling
into their winter activities, few have looked into the hard science
behind this icy game. This presentation will discuss the fundamental science of
why a curling stone curls, why people are frantically sweeping the ice during a
game, and touch on some of the hotly debated theories about the physics of
curling. The talk will be free to the public, accessible and of interest for all ages.
